Conservation of wildlife and protection of the hunter. We find no irony in this because we believe that conservation and hunting are not only compatible, but inseparable.
We believe that habitat and wildlife must be kept in balance, and we believe that wisely managed hunting is one of the best ways to accomplish this. Professional wildlife managers have shown us over and over again that total protection often is not conservation. There simply are too many examples of what happens when species are allowed to exceed levels that space and food supplies can support.
The right to pursue wild game has been handed down to us through the centuries, and we intend to protect this cherished heritage. But when a species is threatened because of habitat loss, political neglect or a natural disaster, Safari Club International steps in with money and effort.
SCI members are proud to be helping preserve wildlife species through our hunting fees and our financial and political support for professional wildlife management. We believe a species is best served when local people realize conserving the species provides them immediate and long term economic rewards. |
